About Cruella De Vil

Cruella De Vil, voiced by Betty Lou Gerson (1961) and famously portrayed by Glenn Close (1996), is the main antagonist or villain in the original 1961 Disney cartoon “101 Dalmatians” and the 1996 movie adaptation, both were based on the novel called “The Hundred and One Dalmatians” (1956) by Dodie Smith.

Cruella is the representative of the cruelty of high fashion at the time where they popularly make clothes with animal furs. Unlike any other Disney villainesses, Cruella doesn’t have any magical power but her vicious ambition. She was born a wealthy lady who’s obsessed with high fashion, who claims that she can’t live without fur coats, and her ambition is to make a fur coat by using the skins of 99 Dalmatian puppies. But she was eventually defeated by her own stubbornness and recklessness.
