About Aunt Jemima
Aunt Jemima was a fictional personality created to promote a pancake mix brand with the same name in 1889. The character was, however, trademarked in 1937. The Quaker Oats Company created Aunt Jemima after the stereotypical picture of black women, which could be seen in Minstrel show, or comic skits.
As of today, many people look at this character as a product of racism in the past. Having said that, many people still go as far as painting their faces black in order to dress up as Aunt Jemima, which is offensive.
